Jr. Biological Systems Engineer

AeroFarms is building a brand new state-of-the-art facility in Newark, NJ to serve the NY Metro area. The facility will be the world’s largest indoor vertical farm for leafy greens and herbs. To support substantial interest from national retailers, AeroFarms also plans a significant scaling of the business, including facilities in other cities and countries in the near future. The company is dedicated to enabling local production at a commercial scale in markets throughout the world.
We're looking for a talented Engineer to work our Research & Development Department in our new state-of-the-art facility in Newark, NJ to serve the NY Metro Area. You should be a motivated and passionate technically minded individual with sound engineering philosophies and desire to make change in the field of agriculture. This position will be responsible for aspects of research and development surrounding the integration of systems to improve plant growth and sustainability. You will report to an experienced Biological Engineer and help with the development of exciting projects integrating state-of-the-art technology with a focus on the biological processes that makes plants grow.
In this role, you will help provide support and for a talented team of scientists and engineers and work cross-functionally to ensure success of long-range goals and strategies. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate expertise in applied science and leadership in data analysis and integration efforts. He/she will be an energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high standards and good judgment. Provide support to Engineering and Research & Development projects centered around water use efficiency, plant growth improvements and data collection capability expansions
Participates in project scoping activities with engineering and R&D teams.
Documents research and prototype testing providing data driven recommendations for implementation of Most Effective Solutions
Aides in development of programming solutions to data collection challenges
Detail oriented specification and design of mechanical systems
Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Electrical Engineering with demonstrated interest in biophysical processes.
Experience working in rapid prototyping equipment/tools preferred (CAD/3D Printing/Molding)
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Biological Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with demonstrated Interest in Biological Systems
